2015 Ford F-150 Atlas concept, price, review
Side by side with other remarkable vehicles like new Transit and Transit Connect commercial vans, Ford made a stunning introduction for new 2015 Ford F-150 Atlas pickup truck on the latest Detroit auto show. Judging by the concept, there is no question about what makes it the best selling America’s pickup truck, along with the rest of the F-series, for the last 37 years. Fighting over the same market space with freshly launched the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, Ford took some extra measures to continue their wining series.
Sporting evolutionary styling, highly influenced by the F-250 and F-350, the Atlas embraces the “Built Ford Tough” image with a prominent grille larger than ever seen on an F-150, bulging fenders and off-road tires. They also improved exterior with some LED headlights and a tailgate with an integrated spoiler. This pair of oversized grill is hiding the next generation of Ford’s twin-turbo EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6, with a “truck-enhanced” stop-start system. Not only that they keep a guard for an engine, but they also improve cars aerodynamics. To further maximize fuel-efficiency, the Atlas has an active shutter grille, when cooling requirements are low and when active wheel shutters close up the wheel vents at speed, allowing the front air dam that lowers at freeway speeds to improve underbody airflow and raise at lower speeds to clear off-road and around-town obstacles. With the help of this little trick, Ford may expect a 2-mpg improvement in fuel economy. Most of other features are already seen on some other models like Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra and even on Nisan pickups: the 110-volt outlets in the bed, the multiple tie-downs in the cargo walls and bed floor, the 360-degree camera, and glove-friendly knobs and switches in the interior.
But let’s not be that harsh to Ford designers for they have been quite original by creating a tailgate step that doubles as a cargo cradle, a roof-carrying system for toting longer objects, and hidden cargo ramps that slide out from under the bed floor. Even more they showed us their great effort to be the best by creating a feature called Dynamic Hitch Assist, which uses the rear camera and trajectory lines as kind of a targeting system to enable the driver to successfully align ball and hitch. And for those that have problems with parking, they promise you will be able to achieve the real truck driver expertise with the assist of Trailer Backup Assist. Although it is all just a concept, we believe an objective one, it is sure that these interesting features will decorate the new 2015 Ford F-150 series. Yet, judging by how serious Ford is about its number one spot, it is probable that most of it will find their spot in new 2015 Ford F-150 Atlas.
